Dispatches from Tokyo: mt tape Factory Tour

Contributor post by Ros of Polkaros.

Japanese washi masking tape brand mt tape is having a 'mt factory tour' event in Kurashiki located in Okayama prefecture from 15 -27 May 2012. It is their first factory open house event and I was happy to be one of the lucky participants.

The tour consisted of a walkthrough on the raw materials they use and the process of how the tapes are cut and packed for shipping. You can also see the detailed writeup on mt tape's website here.

Besides a tour around their factory, there were also a few event areas set up especially for this tour period. One of the highlights was the amazing mt store where they launched some of their latest products and limited edition tapes.

Here's a new series called 'mt CASA' for decorating your home.

There was also a wide variety of  limited edition tapes only available during the tour.

Chiruru is a cute vintage shop located in Koenji, a small town in west Tokyo. Stepping into the store feels like going back in time to 1970s Japan. Besides vintage clothing and accessories, Chiruru also carries a wide selection of vintage supplies such as fabric, laces and buttons for your craft projects. There is also a collection of handmade lampshades, clothes and plush dolls by local craftsman. Some of whom have been making their craft since the 1970's!

Dispatches from Tokyo: Waseda El Dorado

Contributor post by Ros of Polkaros

Waseda El Dorado is a work of art designed by Japanese architect, Von Jour Caux (aka Toshiro Tanaka), who is an architect often referred to as Japan's Gaudi. Located just a few minutes walk from Waseda station in Shinjuku, Tokyo, this colorful building is a unique mix of Art Nouveau and Japanese culture. The first floor is currently home to Dorado gallery and Baroque art & antique store. I love the eclectic mix of traditional Japanese patterns and Art Deco motifs. If you have some time in your next visit to Tokyo, you might want to swing by and take a look at the amazing details in person!
